“Price is what you pay.
Value is what you get.”
Warren Buffet
Nature is the lifeblood of our global economy—underpinning half of the world’s GDP ($44 trillion).
For too long, we’ve only value it when extracted, depleted, or destroyed - leaving those who protect it reliant on goodwill.
It’s time to rewrite that story.
Pricing Nature Conservation
Nature isn’t a one-time project, it is a perpetual, vital asset.
It is time for a new paradigm—one where nature is valued for its worth, like art for its essence and gold for its rarity.
We are here to bridge the gap between those who safeguard ecosystems and those who seek to support them.
Building Investable Nature Assets
Structuring equity-based financial vehicles that channel long-term capital into nature conservation.
Securing Auditable, High-Integrity Data
Leveraging cutting-edge technology to track, quantify and audit ecological assets over time.
Bridging Philanthropy and Impact
Closing companies’ ambition-to-action gap by facilitating performance-based pledges for real, verifiable nature outcomes.

Why |XAU?
|XAU was founded to recognise nature as a strategic asset, empowering its stewards to unlock funding beyond philanthropy.
While XAU is the ticker symbol for trading gold as a commodity, the name |XAU comes from the indigenous Khoisan language, meaning ‘to embark on a magical journey.’
We see un-commoditised nature as the true gold and take a long-term position in its conservation. Our journey into Nature Positive investing is driven not by virtue, but by pragmatism.
We believe many investors, corporate leaders, and stakeholders recognise the urgency of nature conservation, but their intentions often get stuck without the right tools. We’re here to create solutions that transform ambition into real, lasting impact—driving action in cycles, beyond time horizons.
Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities
We believe conservation can only thrive if those who live on and off the land are recognised and rewarded for their efforts to protect its biodiversity.
As part of |XAU governance, we prioritise indigenous peoples' consultation for free prior and informed consent, recognising their unique knowledge of how to care of the entire ecosystem. The involvement of local communities ensures that adjacent lands also benefit, as people working in the region become more empowered to care for its biodiversity across roles within multiple industries.
|XAU creates "Steward Funds" to share part of our annual revenue with those working on the land we've invested in, directly contributing to its biodiversity conservation. A portion of this fund is evenly distributed as bonuses among the team, from janitors to project managers, while another portion supports community initiatives focused on empowering women and girls, as determined by a board of women staff.
Additionally, |XAU Governance enforces that our technology partners, investors and credit buyers have no history of exploiting indigenous peoples, fostering a respectful and sustainable collaboration that can endure over time.

About us
|XAU is rooted in the Ubuntu Philosophy of interdependence.
I am because you are, you are because I am. Each part of the ecosystem depends on all its members.
Founded by a tech entrepreneur determined to preserve nature’s wilderness over generations, |XAU operates at a distinctive crossroads: blending Joana’s own tech-savviness and entrepreneurial drive, her husband Jonathan Rossouw’s profound expertise in wildlife and wild spaces, and her sister Manuela Picq’s deep knowledge, understanding, and unwavering commitment to Indigenous rights, especially for Indigenous women.
|XAU’s purpose is to World’s biodiversity over generations.
Our mission is to make nature conservation financially sustainable, freeing it from its historical reliance on philanthropy. By assigning value to nature, we allow its protection to become a smart investment. It enables investors to secure lasting value, while helping companies de-risk their future by rewarding conservation outcomes.
We envision a World where nature’s value is priced, and all nature-dependent industries contribute towards it — making conservation a standard investment that channels as much capital as gold, art or corporate stocks.
